Germany winger Reus to join Borussia Dortmund

DORTMUND, Germany (AP) -Germany winger Marco Reus will join Bundesliga champion Borussia Dortmund next season from Borussia Moenchengladbach.
Moenchengladbach said on its website Wednesday that the 22-year-old winger was joining his hometown club after Dortmund agreed to pay his ?17.5 million buyout clause.
"It's very important to me to make clear that this isn't a decision against 'Gladbach,'' said Reus, who was born in Dortmund and whose family and girlfriend live there.
"But I decided that I want to take the next step in the coming season and play for a team that challenges for the championship and gives me the guarantee of playing in the Champions League. I see this chance in Dortmund.''
Reus, who has three caps for Germany, has scored 13 goals and set up five more in the Bundesliga and German Cup this season, and Moenchengladbach sports director Max Eberl said the club did everything possible to hold on to its rising star.

"We made Marco a new offer that was over the club's comfort level,'' Eberl said. "He explained his reasons to me fully and I can understand them despite the disappointment. There's no point in complaining now.''
Dortmund said Reus - a transfer target for Bundesliga rival Bayern Munich - will get a five-year contract.
"In Marco Reus we are signing a very highly sought after player for the offense,'' said Dortmund sports director Michael Zorc. "We are glad that Marco decided in favor of (the club) despite high-quality competition.''
Reus had also been linked with Arsenal and Real Madrid.
Dortmund president Hans-Joachim Watzke said the transfer was "soundly financed'' from the club's reserves from the previous years.
"Reus is a player who makes the difference and not only that (but) a real Dortmund lad,'' Watzke said.
Reus played in Dortmund's youth teams before moving to Rot Weiss Ahlen in 2006. He transferred to Borussia Moenchengladbach in 2009.- http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/
