Bayern stars feel the strain
Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has now gone 1018 minutes without conceding a goal, overtaking Bayern legend Oliver Kahn's previous best mark of 1011 minutes. "Oliver was pretty handy too," smiled the modest Neuer, who for once found himself tested more than he might have liked at the WIRSOL Rhein-Neckar-Arena.
Strain in Sinsheim
The FCB shot-stopper was called into action on five occasions, none more so than when 1899 defender Marvin Compper flicked a Roberto Firmino free-kick towards the far corner. Neuer produced an heroic save to maintain his clean sheet: "At least it proved I'm not just showing my strengths in training!" said the Germany No1.
Captain Philipp Lahm was another who preferred the way things were ahead of Matchday 8, with Bayern dominating all comers and rarely coming under threat at the back. "We were too static today," said the 27-year-old after the Hoffenheim clash. "We lacked freshness and movement in our game."
Lahm's words hardly come as a surprise on the back of a strenuous past few weeks for the Rekordmeister. Just four days after taking their winning streak into double figures with a highly impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester City in the Champions League, Jupp Heynckes' star ensemble were understandably beginning to feel the strain in Sinsheim.
