12BET News Update 12/5

Hamburg's revival continues

Munich - Hamburger SV maintained their unbeaten run under new coach Thorsten Fink with a 2-0 victory at home to 1. FC Nuremberg in Sunday's early Bundesliga kick-off.

Goals in either half from Paolo Guerrero and Marcel Jansen put paid to any hopes of a point for Nuremberg, who fought valiantly at times but were unable to find the target for the third away game running. The three points take HSV up to eleventh in the table, their highest position so far this term, while der Club slip to within a point of the bottom three.

Nuremberg respond well

The home side hit the ground running and looked a lot sprightlier than their visitors from the south early on. Although Nuremberg's Christian Eigler got the game's first shot away with a tame effort that barely troubled Jaroslav Drobny, Hamburg set the pace with right-back Dennis Diekmeier particularly energetic on the flank. A fine 50-yard pass from Tomas Rincon released the defender and allowed him to slide into the centre, where Guerrero stole in to smack the hosts' first good chance against the post.

It served as a warning shot and Nuremberg reacted accordingly. Suddenly Drobny was inundated with efforts on goal. First he made a good double-handed save to keep out Daniel Didavi's near-post header before the same player sent another effort wide from Alexander Esswein's pull-back. Esswein himself was proving to be a real threat down the left and crossed again for Tomas Pekhart, whose header forced another decent stop from the HSV keeper.

Guerrero finishes smartly

The visitors had been on the front foot for some time, but typically for a team in their position, the foundations upon which their attacking endeavours were built suddenly crumbled. A huge punt upfield by Drobny was allowed to bounce by the Nuremberg defence, affording Guerrero the chance to muscle a way through and send an excellent chipped finish over Raphael Schäfer into the corner.

It was a bitter blow for Dieter Hecking's side, who hit the bar through another Pekhart header but still found themselves behind at the break. Pekhart had another header kiss the outside of the post after leaping fantastically to meet a right-wing cross towards the hour, but neither side were fluid enough in their build-up play as the game trundled into its final third.

Jansen wraps up victory

With his side already in front, HSV boss Fink brought on creative midfielder Ivo Ilicevic in the hope of scoring a second to snuff out any chance of am away comeback. The move yielded almost immediate results as the Croatian linked up with Gökhan Töre on the edge of the box to put through Jansen, who picked his spot in the far corner and slammed home his fourth of the campaign.

The lively Esswein twice struck the side-netting after respective bursts and shots from the left, but save for a misdirected Gojko Kacar header which he had to tip over at the death, Drobny remained at ease between the posts as Hamburg extended their unbeaten run to eight matches. -http://www.bundesliga.de
