Bundesliga teams head for the sun

Munich - FC Bayern Munich are trying to stay one step ahead of the chasing pack by jetting off to their winter training camp days ahead of their Bundesliga rivals. The Bavarians fly to their base in Qatar on Monday, before heading over to India for a warm-up game ahead of kicking off Matchday 18 at Borussia Mönchengladbach on January 20th.


Most of the rest of the league will have a few more days of winter before flying to sunnier climes for their own training camps, though 1899 Hoffenheim and FC Augsburg are the only sides to remain in Germany for their preparations. Hertha BSC Berlin and VfL Wolfsburg will be the last clubs to resume training, when they restart on Saturday 7th January.

Five teams in Turkey

New Hertha boss Michael Skibbe will meet his players for the first time this week, before flying back to Turkey to begin assessing his players. Th 46-year-old was coach at Turkish first division side Eskisehirspor prior to taking over at the capital club. Borussia Mönchengladbach, SV Werder Bremen, VfB Stuttgart and 1. FC Nuremberg are also travelling to Turkey for their training camps.

New SC Freiburg coach Christian Streich must also get to know his charges, but the south-western side will be heading to Spain, which will also be heavily populated by Bundesliga clubs, with Borussia Dortmund, Hamburger SV, 1. FSV Mainz 05 and 1. FC Kaiserslautern all heading to Spanish soil. Meanwhile Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Hannover 96 and 1. FC Köln will visit the Portuguese side of the Iberian Peninsula.

DFB Cup holders FC Schalke 04 and 2009 Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg will be heading slightly further afield, with the Royal Blues likewise flying to Qatar, while Felix Magath will presumably help his players shed any excess Christmas weight by putting them through their paces in the heat of Dubai.- http://www.bundesliga.de/en/news.php
