Wins for Hamburg and Freiburg, Hannover lose
Arminia Bielefeld 0-1 Hamburger SV
Hamburg made heavy going of it in the first half against their lively Third Division hosts and only the excellent form of keeper Jaroslav Drobny Bielefeld kept Thorsten Fink's men on level terms going into the break. The pattern of the contest remained largely unchanged after the interval, but the Red Shorts eventually prevailed courtesy of a 76th-minute strike by Gojko Kacar and could take some additional consolation from the fact that they had come through an off-day with a clean sheet.
SC Freiburg 2-1 FC Winterthur
A week ahead of the Matchday 18 relegation six-pointer with FC Augsburg, Bundesliga cellar-dwellers Freiburg made it three wins out of three in their pre-restart friendly programme with a 2-1 victory over Swiss second-flight outfit FC Winterthur. Daniel Caligiuri (59') and Immanuel Höhn (86') scored for the hosts in the now-renamed MAGE SOLAR Stadium. New signing Fallou Diagne put in a solid shift in the centre of the defence, while Oliver Sorg and Matthias Ginther, promoted from the reserves and U-19s respectively, also impressed. Christian Streich's charges hHannover 96 0-1 SC Heerenveen Hannover wrapped up their training camp in Vila Nova de Cacela, Portugal, with a 1-0 loss to Heerenveen. The Dutch First Division side bagged what would prove to be the winner with just seven minutes on the clock and Mirko Slomka's below-strength 96ers were left chasing the leveller in vain for the remainder of the contest.
