Thorsten Fink first choice for Hamburg

12BET news update for Oct. 12, 2011

The former Bayern Munich midfielder was widely reported to be Hamburg's first choice following the sacking of Michael Oenning, but Swiss champions Basel want him to honour his contract in full. Fink's current deal at St Jakob-Park expires in 2013.

Hamburg director of football Frank Arnesen has taken temporary charge of first-team affairs after former assistant Rodolfo Cardoso did not have the requisite qualifications to take on the head role full-time.
Arnesen stepping into the breach buys Hamburg some time in their search for a new boss, and Fink has confirmed he would be open to speaking with the 1983 European champions.
"As things stand right now, I presume that I will be fulfilling my contract with Basle, but I don't know what else could happen," he told Switzerland's Blick newspaper.
"Football is a fast-moving business and I never want to come across as being a liar.
"HSV are a great club and their interest is a confirmation of my work. It is only logical that you have to consider such a thing."
Hamburg are sitting bottom of the Bundesliga, having taken just four points from their opening eight games of the season. -
