Nurnberg Vs Bayern Munchen football match preview

Nurnberg coach Dieter Hecking is plotting a surprise in the Bavarian derby on Saturday as his side look for their first win in Munich since 1992. Hecking's side have picked up just three points from their last five games, but that does not mean they make the short trip south without any hope at all.

Bayern captain Philipp Lahm is worried the importance of the fixture may be lost on some of his team mates. Bayern remain three points clear at the top despite suffering a 2-1 defeat at Hannover last weekend. Franck Ribery, Mario Gomez, Manuel Neuer and Bastian Schweinsteiger were also afforded a break by coach Jupp Heynckes, but they should all return by Saturday.

Borussia Dortmund Vs VfB Stuttgart football liga match preview

Dortmund have not lost in the Bundesliga for 21 games. Their last defeat was on September 18, 2011. The title holders have attracted a club record 80,460 average attendance at home games this season. The figure is 99.7 per cent of the full capacity of the Westfalenstadion. In 10 appearances since the winter break, Shinji Kagawa has scored eight goals and made four assists.

Stuttgart have won four of their last five games, conceding just twice in the process. After a strong start to the season, VfB sunk to 11th place before finding their form again. They now are seventh, one point away from fifth spot. Vedad Ibisevic has found the net four times for the Swabians since his mid-season signing from Hoffenheim. Only Martin Harnik, Shinji Okazaki and Cacau have scored more for VfB.

Lizarazu: Bayern's attack is 'incredibly dangerous'

The ex-FCB defender has warned Marseille against the Bavarian giants' attacking potency, and insists Didier Deschamps' men can't afford to just sit back and defend

G_people_lizarazu-v2.jpg (410×410)

Former France international Bixente Lizarazu has hailed Bayern Munich star Mario Gomez as one of the best strikers in Europe, and also praised the Bavarians' attack ahead of Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final first-leg match against Olympique de Marseille.

Lizarazu, who wore the Bayern colours from 1997 until 2004 before leaving for Marseille, only to return to FCB again one year later, believes that the OM defenders will have to be at their very best to contain Jupp Heynckes' side.

"Bayern's attack led by Mario Gomez, one of Europe's best strikers, is incredibly dangerous. Franck Ribery is in top form and sets up lots of goals. And then you have [Arjen] Robben and [Thomas] Muller as well," Lizarazu stated to the official Bayern website. "Marseille will have to be just as alert as they were against Inter [in the round of 16], especially at the back. And they'll have to do more attacking than they did against Inter.

L'OM have lost seven of their last eight games in all competitions, but during this stretch were nonetheless able to advance to take on Bayern. And Lizarazu believes that the French side can again defy their overall form on the grand stage. "Marseille will show a different side of their character in the Champions League compared to Ligue 1, as we saw against Inter." Wednesday's match at the Stade Velodrome kicks off at 20.45CET.

Questioning Bayern Munich is laughable, says Nerlinger

The Bavarians' sporting director has stressed that FCB have plenty of quality in the squad to win silverware this season, but downplayed talks of claiming the treble

Christian Nerlinger has insisted that Bayern Munich have the quality and mental strength to end the season on a successful note.

The Bavarians were criticised during a poor spell earlier this term, but the 39-year-old is adamant that Jupp Heynckes' men are in the right shape and frame of mind to enter the business end of the campaign.

"It's laughable to question the quality or the character of this team," Nerlinger was quoted as saying by Kicker."We have an excellent team that is capable of achieving a lot. We have to keep up our current level in the decisive stage of the season in order to enjoy a great year," the sporting director added.

Although FCB can still claim three major titles this campaign, the former Germany international has urged Bayern not to get carried away."There has been too much talk about possibly winning the treble right from start of the season, and during the winter break in particular. That's not the way forward."Bayern are currently preparing for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final clash away to Olympique de Marseille on Wednesday. - http://www.goal.com

FC Koln Vs Borussia Dortmund match preview

Koln have won just once against Dortmund in 15 attempts since the turn of the millennium. The Billy Goats have the least number of shots on target from all 18 Bundesliga sides this season. Moreover, Koln have accumulated more bookings than any other team in the German top flight - 54 yellow cards and five red cards.

Dortmund are on a 10-away-game unbeaten streak, and could break the club record set under Ottmar Hitzfeld in season 1995/1996 with a positive result on Sunday. Since Jurgen Klopp took over the team, BVB have won all of their games against Koln. Marcel Schmelzer scored his first ever Bundesliga goal against the Billy Goats in a 5-0 demolition of Solbbaken's team in the first part of the season.

Borussia Monchengladbach VS Bayern Munchen match preview

Borussia Monchengladbach's 3-1 victory over Bayern in January completed the club's first ever league double over the Bavarians. Lucien Favre's side are one of just two clubs, the other being Hannover, to have an unbeaten home record in the Bundesliga this season. Since the Borussia Park club last reached the DFB-Pokal final in 1995, Bayern Munich have won the competition seven times, and were losing finalists on one other occasion.

Bayern Munich were victorious in the 1984 edition of this tournament, beating Borussia Monchengladbach in the final. The Allianz Arena club's coach, Jupp Heynckes is a legendary figure around Borussia Park, having scored almost 200 Bundesliga goals across two spells with the club, more than any other player. Bayern have scored 20 goals in their last three games, with Mario Gomez (pictured) and Arjen Robben bagging 15 of those.

Predicted composition of Players

Kaiserslautern part company with Marco Kurz

The German club have decided to fire the 44-year-old after a series of negative results which has left them at the bottom of the Bundesliga standings

Kaiserslautern announced on Tuesday that they have parted ways with coach Marco Kurz. The move comes as a result of a winless run that stretches back to October and sees the club languish at the foot of the Bundesliga table, with 20 points from 26 matches.

"After the 4-1 defeat against Schalke on Sunday and many intensive discussions, we have come to the conclusion that we must take this step," Kaiserslautern CEO Stefan Kuntz told the club's official website."In recent weeks and months, we tried different things to get the team back on track. Unfortunately, this was not successful."

Kurz was appointed as Kaiserslautern coach in 2009, guiding the club to a seventh-placed finish in the Bundesliga in 2010-11 after they were promoted to the top tier of German football in his first season at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion.Kaiserslautern have announced that assistant Oliver Schafer and goalkeeping coach Gerry Ehrmann will guide the team until a permanent replacement is found. - http://www.goal.com

Greuther Furth Vs Borussia Dortmund match preview

Greuther Furth have won six of their last seven games in all competitions. A league draw with Ingolstadt blemishes a near-perfect record. Olivier Occean is enjoying a great scoring patch for the Cloverleaves. He has bagged six goals in his last seven outings. The hosts have already eliminated two Bundesliga outfits on their way to the semi-final. Nurnberg and Hoffenheim both fell at their hand in the previous two rounds.

Borussia Dortmund come into the game on the back of setting a new unbeaten record for the club. It is now 20 league games since BVB last tasted defeat in the Bundesliga. Jurgen Klopp's men were taken all the way to penalties by second-tier outfit Fortuna Dusseldorf in the third round. They scraped through, winning the shootout 5-4. Dortmund last lifted the trophy 23 years ago in the 1988/89 season. The closest they have come since was in 2007/08 when they ended as runners-up to Bayern Munich.

Energie Cottbus Vs Fortuna Dusseldorf match preview

Just a single match could Energie Cottbus win since Rudi Bommer has become their new coach at the beginning of the year. Also Bommer wasn't able yet to motivate this often inactive and insecure team. At least the relegation positions are still seven points away. The defense made progress under Bommer, but up front only 24 goals were scored in 25 matches. Dimitar Rangelov is the only real striker available at the moment. Apart of Eintracht Frankfurt (3:3) Cottbus lost all matches at home against top teams (1860 Munich 0:5, St. Pauli 1:4, Gr. Fürth 0:2, Paderborn 0:2).

After a miserable start to the new year Fortuna Düsseldorf have won the last two matches with 8:1 goals and still have decent chances to promote. But on Monday three important players will have to be replaced. Striker Rösler (12 goals), midfielder Bodzek and full-back Langeneke are all suspended. There is wide quality in the squad, but the 'new ' team may need some time to find. Fortuna lost just two matches all season, drew seven times away from home (5-7-1).

Hannover 96 vs FC Koln football liga match update

Hannover are, together with Borussia Mönchengladbach, the only team in the Bundesliga who haven’t lost a match at home yet. Ignoring the (always injured) Leon Andreasen, they’ll try to keep that streak alive with more or less the entire squad available. Only striker Mame Diouf is doubtful with a ligament injury, it’s not sure yet whether he’ll be fit enough to play.

For Köln, the last week was a crazy one (as usual). The so-called 6-point match against Hertha was won 1-0, causing coach Stale Solbakken to show us a crazy, emotional celebration (Volker Finke being gone didn’t exactly make him sad, either). But while the match was won, Lukas Podolski was lost. A red card that most people, me included, think wasn’t one slightly dampened the mood.

Borussia Dortmund Vs Werder Bremen football liga match preview

Should Borussia Dortmund avoid defeat on Saturday, it will have gone 20 Bundesliga games without losing, a new club record.  Jurgen Klopp's men have not conceded a first half goal since Dec. 17, when Jan Rosenthal equalized in an eventual 4-1 win over Freiburg. The last draw between these two teams in Dortmund occurred more than 11 years ago. Since then, there have been seven home wins and three away wins.

Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf (right) has never lost twice to Borussia Dortmund in a single season since taking the job in 1999. The Weserstadion side has scored six goals in its last four games, with six different players finding the net. The suspended Claudio Pizarro has scored 40 percent of Werder Bremen's total goal tally this campaign.
